About Us


Debbie is head of our private client department and has over 20 years’ experience in private client work, specialising in wills and probate.

Debbie gained an honours degree in law from Staffordshire University then completed her Legal Practice Course at the University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE).  She then took her Professional Skills Course at UWE and St Lloyes College, Exeter.

Debbie has been working in this area and at this firm since before she qualified as a solicitor in 2001.  Debbie started work at the firm as a filing clerk/legal assistant in 1997 and then progressed to a training contract after which she qualified as a solicitor. She became a salaried partner in 2009.

In particular Debbie deals with wills, probate, intestacies, powers of attorney and Court of Protection matters and related conveyancing. She also deals with informal change of name deeds for adults.

Simon is head of our conveyancing department. He is a solicitor and deals with all aspects of residential and commercial conveyancing, including buying and selling, re-mortgaging, buy to let properties and commercial licenses and leases.

Simon obtained his law degree at the University of West of England in 1999 and completed his further legal studies in 2000, then training with a Plymouth based firm before qualifying as a solicitor in 2003. After qualification, Simon worked in a variety of areas of law, with a strong focus on property matters, before moving to another local firm in 2006 where he practised residential conveyancing until 2014. After a brief stint working for a firm in Exeter, Simon joined Blight Skinnard in November 2014 and has been head of the firm’s property department since then.

Simon has a loyal following of clients who have instructed him many times over the years.

Gillian was admitted as a Solicitor in 1999 and as a Notary Public in 2008. Gillian has lead responsibility for all Family and Litigation work within the firm and is primarily responsible for all family, matrimonial and child related work; ancillary relief both low income and medium to high net worth; Family Law Act injunctions; Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act proceedings and matrimonial conveyancing.

Gillian also deals with drafting Wills and contracts, elderly client matters including Lasting Powers of Attorney, Deputyship and Court of Protection work and employment issues including Settlement Agreements.

Gillian is also a trained Mediator skilled at helping her clients settle disputes and negotiate their way through what is often a very difficult time for them.



Mr Skinnard qualified as a solicitor in 1983 after studying at the University of Oxford and the College of Law at Guildford. He was born in Saltash.

He deals with a wide range of Property and Commercial matters, from solar farms and factory units to industrial premises, agricultural sales and lettings. He is also experienced in a variety of residential property work.

During the last three decades he has been heavily involved with many local property developments including those which have planning agreements with local authorities encouraging local occupancy.

He deals with Inheritance Tax and estate planning and advises in contested probate matters. He helps business clients on structuring their affairs to mitigate tax liabilities on death.

Out of office hours he acts as a trustee and adviser to a number of local clubs and organisations.




Ken qualified as a solicitor in 1974 after graduating from Leicester University with a law degree. He trained and worked in London for several years before moving to Cornwall in 1988. He became a partner in the firm in 1998.

He has specialised in Family Law and Litigation for over 40 years so has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in his field.

Ken has recently retired as Senior Partner of the firm but will continue with the firm as a Consultant.
